Tl;dr: AI image generators suck and so do all the major 'art' platforms. I’m trading the loathsome ArtStation, Twitter, and Instagram for Pillowfort, Artfol, and Inkblot. (And looking for other suggestions on galleries to try! Tell me where you guys are at!) I’m struggling to detach myself from long-time online home deviantArt, but I think morally and for our own good we should probably all gtfo from this place sooner than later. An actual lawsuit has finally been leveled at dA (for DreamUp, as part of a larger suit over Stable Diffusion) and I have some dumb hope it will spook sense into this site. This is a long read, don't feel obligated. Like many of us, I've been working through a lot of things lately and writing helps me get my thoughts in order. If AI and the sorry state of art sites have been on your mind, maybe it will help you too. — So. When I popped back online in November I was looking to rejoin the art community, to share my work again and reconnect with old friends
AI art, no longer a place for humans? by Yuuza, journal
AI art, no longer a place for humans?
I've been browsing deviantart lately after a long absence and noticed around 80% of th art i see here is AI art. Then i go to the comment section and i see Ai generated comment responses i can use, i scroll down and i see some people have actually used some of them. So a machine generates art and a machine comments on it. How ironic is that? 8 out of 10 new deviants sugested are AI prompters. It gives me the feeling that there is no longer a place for human art here. It's quite lonely coming here seeing everything machine made, almost like i am in the matrix or some alternate universe governed by machines. From the people i watch i see many journals of people leaving for other sites and i am sure many left but did not make a journal about it. When i joined, it was the human interaction that made me want to come back again and again and ultimately become a better artist. I am thinking of the new artists who just begun their journey how this feels for them right now. If anyone wants
No longer feel comfortable posting my OG art by Taralen, journal
No longer feel comfortable posting my OG art
Starting today, due to the insane amount of disrespect artists are facing right now on the internet, no thanks to (but not entirely because of) tech bros and their AI scraping obsession, I will no longer post most of my original concept art for free. If you're interested in my stuff, please check out my Patreon. This is the compromise I am making instead of keeping entirely private. Most of my public art will be fanart. I will still post my original art, but not as frequently. And to be quite frank: my original work is mostly WIP, and since I am a hardcore perfectionist, I feel much better being private about it until I can solidify the ideas. As another aside, original work is not marketable with an uncaring audience. I aspire to grow on other platforms, and the only way to effectively do this is not to draw original work. Sorry to say, but it's the truth.
When AI generated images became popular I was quite interested. I've tried some of the generators myself and at first it was quite funny. But after a short time I realized something: AI image generators are already too good. And the development of AI image generators is still not finished. What does it mean to the world of art if everyone can create perfect images in seconds? Well, if the development continues like this without strict rules, this will be the end of art as we know it today. And this is absolutely not overdramatization. Sure, AI has some benefits. But its really sad that they are enough to make most people ignore the long list of extremely bad issues it causes on the other hand. What value has art anymore if everyone can create perfect images without any real effort in just seconds? It loses its value completely. If you achieve something without even trying to get into the topic, without any real effort, its nothing you are proud of. And stop fooling yourself saying
Is there a way to filter all the Ai stuff off from my homepage? I tried muting some tags already but peeps just use so many different ones when posting those and some don´t even tag them as anything Ai related... I just wanna view cool art created by people who have actually spent years to learn how to do art and creating their styles, not some computer mass product furry stuff and adopts that are just ripped off from said artists labor by the press of couple buttons.
Quick and easy explanation of why AI is art theft by stsnvawatchingDAdie, journal
Quick and easy explanation of why AI is art theft
Disclaimer: whoever brings up the artstyle into this discussion will be immediately discovered for being unable to read, because the article below never mentions anything about it :) Consider that AI generation has been built by scraping open source internet, consuming countless drawings that have COPYRIGHTS on them, without asking for the artists' consent. All the databases were built upon non-consenting data. AI generators massively infringe copyrights of artists whose artwork has been fed to the machine, and it all does not fall under fair use. Fair use is defined by NOT devaluing the edited work. However, AI does devalue artists, as is seen by countless people claiming that artists are now worthless, because the machine learned from them and now can do it for free/cheaper. By using AI generation machines you are essentially supporting art theft. And yes, I know DA supports this, making an illusion that it's legal. No, it's not. For DA it's money out of your core renewal. They
